Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Pittsburgh Thunderbirds are keen to share the prowess of their new Supercell Mixed Ultimate Disc Squad this weekend with the sports fans around the Tri-State. The noon meeting against the DC Breeze’s mixed team is Sunday, June 3 at Founder’s Field, 101 Eisele Road in Cheswick, Pennsylvania.

This bout is under American Ultimate Disc League rules. The roster has 12 area women who recently tried out for the event and 12 men from the Thunderbirds lineup. Tickets may be obtained online here.

Andrew Gardner, general manager of the T-birds, spoke about how this Sunday’s contest came about, “The Supercell concept was brain-stormed by a group of Pittsburgh ultimate women leaders and a small core of the Thunderbirds. Throughout several sessions, the Thunderbirds listened to the feedback of the Pittsburgh women’s ultimate community. It was concluded that what was best for Pittsburgh was to focus on a mixed initiative rather than a separate women’s squad. The Thunderbirds then selected a Supercell team which will comprise the top 50% of the Thunderbirds current roster and 12 of the best women from the region. We are very excited to be able to provide this opportunity to these amazing athletes and to our dedicated fans.”

If, you can not make to this meeting, it will be live-streamed on the T-birds YouTube channel with Matt Weiss calling all of the action. Plans include having all of the features the Black and Gold offer at their home contests.
