By Larry Snyder

Pittsburgh, Pa – Followers of the Pittsburgh Passion (3-1-0) are ready to get their tailgate on as the Women of Steel are at Joe P. DeMichela Stadium Saturday, May 21, to confront the Detroit Venom (3-2-0). This matchup starts with the coin toss at 6:00 p.m.

Last week the Black and Gold rebounded from their road loss to the Boston Renegades and claimed a 35-6 victory in the heart of Ohio against the Columbus Chaos at Whitehall Yearling High School.

First-year quarterback Alyssa George kept the Pittsburgh offense humming with one rushing score, two passing touchdowns, and 151 throwing yards. Wide receiver Jana Meister hauled in both touchdowns and 51 receiving yards. Rookie standout Marcelina Chavez contributed 76 yards on the ground plus a trip to the end zone, and Brandy Polinick also delivered six points rushing.

Sophia Pagan, Emalee Tunney, Jacqueline Cook, Kimberly Zubovic, and Kaitlain Niedermeyer kept the Chaos defense off-balance with their robust play along the offensive line. They continue to get better each week as a unit.

Looking back at the season opener in Detroit, defensive coordinator Erik Keister saw his crew rack up four sacks, three interceptions, one fumble recovery, and five pass deflections over the Venom. Hannah Daman, Devon Peace, Niaja Brokaw, Jasmin Jones, Rebecca Ehrgood, Ashley DiCicco, Meize Gardner, and Erica Moore hold the key to another dominating performance at West Allegheny High School this week.
